Terera is a teleprompter for Windows 10 and 11. It floats over your call, your slides or your recording software, your clicks pass through it, and it follows your voice word by word: it waits when you pause, holds your place when you go off script, and resumes when you return to the script. Speech recognition runs on your own computer. Here is what it does on Windows in particular, and how to set it up.

What Terera does on Windows
On top of the slide show. On Windows the overlay stays on top of a full-screen slide show, so you can read your notes without switching back to Terera.
Click-through. Your clicks pass through Terera to the window beneath, so you can move your slides or unmute your call. It turns on when you enter the overlay, and Ctrl+Alt+C switches it.
Hide from screen share. On Windows, Terera can ask to be left out of screen captures. Screen-share hiding depends on the capture method your app uses, so check your sharing preview before a live call.
Global keys.Ctrl+Alt+M switches the overlay from any app, Ctrl+Alt+Space starts and pauses, Ctrl+Alt+F freezes the script and Ctrl+Alt+D sends the overlay to the next display. If another app already holds a key, Terera uses an alternative where it has one, and its Shortcuts panel shows the keys in use.
Reading positions. One person, two people or a room, set under Audience. Two people means two listeners, not two presenters.
Your script, your marks. Import a Word document (.docx) with its bold, italics and colour, or paste from Word or Google Docs.
Synthetic voice. Real app. One take.A screen recording of Terera on Windows over a full-screen slide show, following a synthetic voice. Filmed in Rehearse mode with Audience set to 3 or more. Nothing inside the take is cut, re-timed or sped up. Both slide changes are real clicks through the reader.Open the take (MP4, 0:34)
Sharing your screen on Windows
Hide from screen share asks Windows to leave Terera’s window out of captures. On Windows 10 version 2004 or later, and on Windows 11, Windows removes such a window from captures; on older Windows 10 builds it shows as a black rectangle. Microsoft says the mechanism is not a security feature and gives no guarantee. Screen-share hiding depends on the capture method your app uses, so check your sharing preview before a live call.
Before a call that matters, join your own meeting from a phone with the sound off, share what you plan to share, and look. Our guides to Microsoft Teams and Zoom walk through it.
Getting set up
Buy Terera. The licence key is emailed from licence@terera.app a minute or two after you pay.
Download Terera for Windows from the download page. The Windows installer is signed by Terkon Pty Ltd and installs for your user account, with no admin rights needed.
Open Terera and paste your key. The first time you switch on voice following, Terera downloads its speech model, about 190 MB; after that, speech recognition runs on your computer.
Under Delivery, choose your microphone. If Terera cannot hear you, open Settings, then Privacy & security (Privacy on Windows 10), then Microphone, and let desktop apps access your microphone.
Paste your script, set Audience, and press M for the meeting overlay.
You need Windows 10 or 11, a microphone, about 190 MB for the speech model, and internet access for setup and periodic licence checks.
When something else is the better choice
You want a prompter on a phone or a tablet. Terera is a desktop app.
You only need a steady scroll at a set speed. Terera has one, but you would be paying for voice following you do not need; our comparison with Virtual Teleprompter says when that is the better buy.
You read from a second monitor or a prompter rig, or share one script with a co-host. Our comparison with Onwords, a Windows prompter built for that, sets out the difference.
Your script is not in English. Voice following works in English; manual and timed scrolling work in any language.
You also present from a Mac. The same licence covers it; Terera on a Mac sets out what differs there.
