Two tools that both say teleprompter and mean different things by it.

The short version
BigVU is a video studio that lives in the cloud: record, caption, edit, dub, publish, all inside one subscription. Its teleprompter is one instrument in a large orchestra. Terera is one instrument, full stop — a desktop prompter for the take you can't redo: the live pitch, the client call, the meeting where a real person is watching you in real time.
BigVU helps you finish a video. Terera helps you hold a gaze.
What BigVU actually is
Capable software with a different job. On a phone or in a browser, BigVU records you, captions you, fixes your eye line in post, swaps your background, dubs you into other languages, and pushes the result to your social channels. If your work is turning out polished clips on a schedule, that bundle earns its keep — and you should probably buy it.
What it is not, by its own description, is a prompter that follows your voice. BigVU scrolls on a timer and pauses when you go quiet — its site says the teleprompter "detects when you pause" so scrolling stops. Useful. But between pauses, you are pacing yourself to the scroll, not the other way around.
What Terera is
A Windows desktop app that floats over whatever you're presenting from — your slides, your call, your notes — and moves your script the way a speaker's eyes move, while listening to you speak. Word by word, on your machine, offline. Stop, and it waits. Leave the script to answer a question, and your place is kept. It records nothing, edits nothing, publishes nothing. The whole product is the ninety seconds when someone is looking at you.
Where BigVU is ahead
Plainly: mobile. BigVU has iOS and Android apps with millions of downloads; Terera has no phone app. BigVU edits video; Terera doesn't touch video at all. BigVU captions, dubs into 30+ languages, and manages team workspaces; Terera speaks English and belongs to one person at a time (well — three machines, one owner). BigVU has a free tier; Terera has a thirty-day refund instead. If any of those are the job, the choice is already made, and it isn't us.
Where Terera is ahead
The live take. BigVU's prompter works inside BigVU; Terera is a click-through desktop overlay for your call, recording software or slides. It can be excluded from a screen share, but that depends on the capture method: check your sharing preview first. BigVU paces you with a scroll; Terera follows your voice, holds when you go off script and resumes when your speech matches the nearby text. BigVU's captures live in its cloud while your subscription lasts; Terera processes speech and stores scripts on your computer. It connects for model downloads and licensing, without sending your script or audio.
And the meter: BigVU runs $12 to $49 a month depending on tier (listed on bigvu.tv/pricing when we checked — the same plans cost more when bought inside the iOS app). Terera is USD 89 once, tax included, three machines, twelve months of updates.

What their users say
BigVU's app-store record is genuinely strong — about 4.7 stars across roughly 35,000 App Store ratings and 4.4 across some 64,000 on Google Play when we checked. The recurring gripes in public reviews are about the meter, not the tool: reviewers calling the subscription "unbelievably expensive," and frustration that the useful features sit behind it. Some report audio-video sync problems on mobile recordings.
Terera is new. We have no review record yet — the thirty-day refund is doing that job for now, and we'd rather earn the stars than borrow credibility we haven't banked.
The verdict
Buy BigVU if your output is video — clips produced, captioned and shipped, on your phone, on a schedule. It's good at that, and Terera would be no help at all.
Buy Terera if your output is you — live, on a call or in front of a lens, where the whole game is that the person watching believes you're talking to them. That's the only thing this software does, and it does it without sending a word you say anywhere.
