Terera vs Speakflow

Two prompters that follow your voice, built for different rooms.

Speakflow is built for a team making videos. Terera is built for one person on a live call.

The short version

Speakflow is a script workspace with a teleprompter. It runs in a browser, has an iPhone and iPad app, and has a desktop app for Windows and Mac that Speakflow labels beta. Teams write and comment on scripts together, it records video, and its Flow mode scrolls as you speak. Terera is a desktop app for Windows and Mac that floats over your call or your slides. It follows your voice word by word, waits when you pause, holds your place when you go off script, and resumes when you return to the script. Speech recognition runs on your own computer, and you pay once.

The part both of us agree on

A prompter should keep up with the speaker. Speakflow’s help centre describes Flow well: it uses your device’s microphone to “detect your words as you talk, then scroll the word into view as you read your script.” That is the right idea.

Where the speech recognition runs

Speakflow

Speakflow’s security page says its voice tracking “may process microphone audio through external speech services”, and its help centre says “an active and reliable internet connection is needed to present scripts using Flow mode”. Scripts live in your Speakflow account, so they reach your other devices and your team; Speakflow says its application databases are hosted in the United States.

Terera

Terera runs speech recognition on your computer using a model downloaded during setup. Model downloads and licensing need network access; your script, audio and rehearsal history are not included in those requests. The security page lists what the app connects for, and how to check it yourself.

If your script is a product video, that may not matter much. If it is a board briefing or a results rehearsal, where your script and your voice go is a practical question.

Speakflow

Where Speakflow is ahead

The team, the browser and the phone. Speakflow runs in a browser on almost any modern device with a microphone, has an iPhone and iPad app, and lets a team write, comment on and edit scripts together in real time; its Studio plan adds up to 10 client workspaces and up to 25 members. It records and stores video. It supports several script languages, and its no-cost plan offers limited Flow, with a two-minute limit per take.

Speakflow’s desktop app says the teleprompter is visible to you alone, and does not appear in screen captures, screenshots or what you share. Terera offers screen-share hiding only on Windows. Screen-share hiding depends on the capture method your app uses, so check your sharing preview before a live call.

If your work is a team producing videos, Speakflow is built for that. Terera has no shared workspace, no phone app and no recorder.

Terera

Where Terera is ahead

The live take. Speakflow’s help centre says Flow “is best for situations in which you can shoot multiple takes in a non-live setting”, and in front of a live audience it recommends Manual mode, or Auto, which scrolls at a set speed. Terera is built for the take you can’t redo: it follows your voice word by word, waits when you pause, holds your place when you go off script, and resumes when you return to the script.

The desk. Terera floats over your call or slides as a click-through overlay, and on Windows it stays above a full-screen slideshow and can be left out of a screen share. Screen-share hiding depends on the capture method your app uses, so check your sharing preview before a live call.

Your documents. Terera imports Word files and keeps bold, italics and colour; Speakflow’s help centre says “Importing scripts from documents is currently unavailable.” Terera also holds the script in fixed reading positions for two listeners or a room, and it needs no account; Speakflow needs one for saved scripts and for its desktop app.

And the meter. Speakflow Plus is $19 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly ($180 a year), and its desktop app comes with Plus or Studio. Terera is paid once, tax included: three of your own machines, twelve months of updates, and the installed version keeps working after that. Terera’s refund runs thirty days, no reason needed; Speakflow refunds your most recent payment if you ask within seven days of it, and your access ends at once.

The verdict

Buy Speakflow if your output is a team’s videos.

Scripts written together, recorded, stored and shared, in a browser or on an iPhone. It’s built for that, and Terera would be no help.

Buy Terera if your output is you, live.

One speaker, a call or a deck, words that may be sensitive, and a take you can’t redo. Speech recognition stays on your computer, and you pay once.

Questions

Does Speakflow follow your voice?

Yes. As of 1 October 2026, Speakflow’s Flow mode uses your device’s microphone to recognise the words of your script and scroll them into view, and it stops after 30 seconds of silence. Its no-cost plan offers limited Flow, with a two-minute limit per take.

Where does Speakflow process speech?

Speakflow’s security page says its voice tracking may process microphone audio through external speech services, and its help centre says Flow needs an active and reliable internet connection (checked 1 October 2026). Terera runs speech recognition on your own computer after its speech model downloads at setup.

Does Speakflow have a desktop app for Windows and Mac?

Yes, in beta as of 1 October 2026, and included with the Plus and Studio plans. Speakflow says it floats above your other apps, lets you keep using the apps behind it, and keeps the teleprompter out of screen captures, screenshots and what you share.

Which is better for a live presentation or call?

Speakflow’s help centre recommends Manual mode, or Auto, in front of a live audience, and says Flow is best for takes you can repeat in a non-live setting. Terera is made for live calls and presentations: it floats over your call or slides, follows your voice word by word, waits when you pause, holds your place when you go off script, and resumes when you return to the script.

How do the prices compare?

As of 1 October 2026, Speakflow Plus costs $19 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly, and Speakflow has a no-cost plan. Terera costs USD 89 once, tax included, for three of your own machines and twelve months of updates, with a thirty-day refund; the installed version keeps working after that.
